Derrick L. Murry is North Medical’s Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for overseeing all non-clinical operational functions of North Medical and its five divisions.   In this role, Mr. Murry leads of one of the largest healthcare organizations in Central New York with direct authority over staff management, provider recruitment, payer and patient relations and information technology.   North Medical employs nearly 500 employees and serves over 1200 patients per day. Under Mr. Murry’s leadership, North Medical restructured its internal operations to respond more effectively to patient needs, environmental changes associated with healthcare reform and increasing financial pressures associated with the economic downturn.  These changes, in combination with payer contract renegotiations and changes to financial policies have resulted in efficiency gains across the organization and a positive impact on shareholder value. A member of the executive leadership team, Mr. Murry consistently supports the development of patient-focused policies including the iCareTM program. Mr. Murry possesses extensive experience in managing all operational aspects of healthcare delivery organizations and in the development and growth of Management Services Organizations (MSOs).  Prior to joining North Medical, he served as the General Manager of two national durable medical equipment providers.  In this role, Mr. Murry was recognized for driving up monthly sales and net revenue.  As the Executive Director of the Southern Tier Community Health Center Network, Inc., Mr. Murry was successful in implementing financial improvements and patient-centered policies that resulted in a turnaround of the community-based healthcare network serving 65,000 community residents within his first six months. In his role as Senior Director of Operations for HealthCare Partners, IPA & MSO (HCP), he served on the executive management committee with responsibility for operational, financial and regulatory activities of the company.  Mr. Murry began his career as the CEO and President of SunHealth Alliance, an Independent Physician Association and Management Services Organization, where he led the business during a period of significant growth and expansion.    Mr. Murry is a PhD. candidate in public health and holds a Master’s degree in public health.  He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and American Public Health Association.  His academic research and commitment to public health led him to roles on the Board of Directors for the National Kidney Foundation of CNY and Vision for Change.  He was recognized as the 2009 Top Fundraiser Team Captain for NKFCNY Walk and for his service as the Walk Logistic Chair.  Recognizing that heart disease is the #1 diagnosis of the practice, Mr. Murry was instrumental in solidifying North Medical’s sponsorship of the American Heart Association’s “Start! Heart Walk”.  In 2008, the AHA recognized Murry as the top fundraiser team captain.  In 2009, Mr. Murry was honored with a “40 Under 40” award for his business and civic contributions to the community. Award Recipient
